Mandela's Cuban Connection

By Paul Gray/Reported by David Ellis

Since his release from prison, Nelson Mandela has traveled
63,350 miles in 84 days to 23 countries, urging the retention
of sanctions against South Africa and raising hackles by his
refusal to denounce Fidel Castro and other revolutionaries who
have supported his cause. The strain is showing: last week
Mandela came down with mild pneumonia in Ethiopia. Mandela, who
turns 72 this week, is considering a vacation that could raise
some eyebrows: a three-week Caribbean sojourn as Castro's guest
in Cuba.
